Agrizen Foods Standards.
Agrizen Foods builds trust through visibility, standards, verification, traceability, and accountable operations.
Agrizen Foods builds trust through visibility, standards, verification, traceability, and accountable operations.
Framework Thesis: Agrizen Foods does not sell trust through storytelling alone. Agrizen Foods builds trust through visibility, standards, verification, traceability, and accountable operations.
This section establishes the complete operational and philosophical standards by which Agrizen Foods sources, evaluates, approves, monitors, and governs its supplier ecosystem and its own internal operations. These standards are the backbone of Agrizen's market differentiation.
Agrizen Foods operates as a curated food reseller, not a producer. This is a deliberate and strategically significant distinction. We do not own farms, livestock, processing facilities, or supplier brands. Our role is to serve as the quality gate, standards enforcer, and trust infrastructure between Kenya's best independent food producers and a discerning consumer base that demands both provenance and accountability.
The Agrizen foods Standards Framework exists to make that trust infrastructure operational, auditable, and visible. Every standard contained herein is designed not merely to satisfy internal compliance, but to be publishable to consumers, investors, regulators, and suppliers alike.
Core Philosophy Statement: Agrizen foods does not hide its supply chain. Agrizen foods illuminates it. The supplier is not a back-office detail the supplier is the story. Our standards exist to ensure that story is consistently true.
Provenance is not a marketing tool at Agrizen food it is the primary governance construct. Every operational decision is evaluated against whether it strengthens or compromises the traceability chain from farm or facility to consumer.
Radical transparency is the deliberate and unconditional commitment to making Agrizen's foods operational reality visible, not curated, not selectively disclosed, not filtered through a marketing lens. This doctrine applies to:
Transparency Doctrine Override: No commercial consideration — including supplier relationship management, reputational sensitivity, or revenue impact — may override Agrizen's transparency obligations to consumers. Information that is required to be disclosed under this doctrine must be published within the prescribed timeframes regardless of internal stakeholder concerns.
Each approved Agrizen foods supplier is assigned a dedicated, Agrizen-hosted Supplier Profile. The profile is a living document, updated in real time as certifications, audit outcomes, and operational data change.

No supplier may supply products to Agrizen foods without completing the full onboarding process. Partial onboarding is not a permissible interim state. The onboarding framework consists of five sequential gates, all of which must be cleared before any commercial relationship commences.
| Gate | Stage | Requirements | Responsible Party |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gate 1 | Documentary Review | Business registration, all relevant certifications, proof of insurance, regulatory licences. Reviewed by Agrizen Standards Team. Pass/Fail only — no conditional passes. | Agrizen Standards Team |
| Gate 2 | Physical Site Audit | On-site inspection of farm / facility against the Agrizen Supplier Audit Protocol. Covers production practices, cold chain infrastructure, hygiene standards, traceability systems, staff practices. | Agrizen QC Inspector + Standards Lead |
| Gate 3 | Batch Quality Assessment | Minimum 2 product batches from the prospective supplier submitted for full QC inspection under the Agrizen QC Protocol (F04). Both batches must achieve PASS status. | Agrizen QC Inspector |
| Gate 4 | Traceability Verification | Supplier must demonstrate end-to-end traceability for the assessed batches — from raw material source through production to packaged unit. Scored on Agrizen Traceability Scorecard (1–5). | Agrizen Standards Team |
| Gate 5 | Commercial Terms & Profile Activation | Supplier signs Agrizen Supplier Agreement. Supplier profile is built, reviewed by supplier for accuracy, and activated on the Agrizen platform. | Agrizen Management + Supplier |
Supplier approval is not a permanent state. Agrizen foods operates a continuous audit cycle that recertifies supplier standing on a structured schedule, supplemented by unannounced spot audits and event-triggered audits.
| Audit Type | Scope | Frequency / Trigger | Notice | Protocol |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scheduled Annual Audit | Every approved supplier | 12 months from last full audit | Announced (14 days notice) | Full Agrizen Supplier Audit Protocol |
| Semi-Annual Review | Suppliers with Traceability Score <= 3 or on probation | 6 months | Announced (7 days notice) | Abbreviated audit + corrective action review |
| Unannounced Spot Audit | Any supplier, at Agrizen discretion | As triggered minimum 1/year per supplier | No notice | Targeted — specific concern area |
| Event-Triggered Audit | Any supplier linked to a QC failure, complaint, or incident | Within 5 business days of trigger event | 24 hours notice maximum | Full protocol + incident-specific investigation |
| Certification Renewal Audit | Any supplier with a certification due for renewal | 60 days before cert expiry | Announced (30 days notice) | Certification-specific verification |
Certifications are not administrative artefacts at Agrizen foods they are live, expiring, publicly visible indicators of supplier standing. Agrizen maintains a central Certification Register updated in real time.
| State | Definition | Agrizen Action | Consumer Visibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| Active / Current | Certification valid; not within 90-day expiry window | Routine monitoring | Green — Active |
| Expiry Warning | Certification within 90 days of expiry | Notify supplier; initiate renewal process | Amber — Expiry Approaching (date shown) |
| Expiry Imminent | Certification within 30 days of expiry | Escalate to supplier management; consider sourcing pause | Amber — Renewal Required (date shown) |
| Expired — Under Renewal | Certification expired; renewal in active process with issuing body | Suspend new batch approvals; existing inventory reviewed case by case | Red — Expired (renewal date shown if available) |
| Expired — No Action | Certification expired; no renewal initiated by supplier | Immediate sourcing suspension; initiate probation review | Red — Expired — Sourcing Paused |
| Revoked | Certification withdrawn by issuing body | Immediate supplier suspension; recall assessment | Red — Certification Revoked — Supplier Under Review |
Every product sold under the Agrizen foods umbrella must meet or exceed the following baseline standards at the point of dispatch. These are minimum thresholds individual product categories carry additional specific standards documented in the Agrizen foods Product Category Specifications Annex.
Agrizen's foods supplier approval criteria extend beyond product quality and certifications to encompass the ethical operating conditions of the supplier. These standards are assessed at onboarding and reviewed at each annual audit.
| Ethical Standard | Agrizen Requirement |
|---|---|
| Labour Practices | Suppliers must demonstrate lawful employment practices, payment of statutory wages, and safe working conditions. Evidence of exploitative labour practices is an immediate disqualifying condition. |
| Animal Welfare | For livestock-based suppliers, animal welfare practices must meet or exceed Kenya's applicable regulatory standards. Suppliers must be able to demonstrate humane handling, transport, and slaughter practices with documentation. |
| Environmental Impact | Suppliers must not operate practices that cause documented, ongoing environmental degradation. Agrizen does not require suppliers to hold specific environmental certifications at onboarding but does assess environmental risk as part of the audit protocol. |
| Community Relationship | Suppliers operating within or adjacent to local communities should demonstrate constructive, non-extractive relationships with those communities. Evidence of active community harm is a material concern in supplier evaluation. |
| Anti-Corruption | Suppliers must certify that they do not engage in corrupt practices in obtaining certifications, regulatory approvals, or any other official document presented to Agrizen. |
| Non-Discrimination | Suppliers must not operate discriminatory employment or operational practices on the basis of gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic. |
Supplier relationships at Agrizen foods are conditional on ongoing compliance with this framework. The following conditions trigger mandatory suspension or removal processes. These are not discretionary they are binding governance commitments.
The Agrizen foods operational system generates significant volumes of data and the associated supplier profile system. The integrity of that data is a governance obligation equal in importance to the physical quality of the products.
Agrizen foods acknowledges that sustainability is a material dimension of premium food commerce and consumer trust. Our current sustainability positioning reflects where we are at this stage of the business honest, specific, and free of unsubstantiated claims.
This framework is a living document. It is reviewed annually as a minimum, and immediately following any material operational event, regulatory change, or strategic shift that makes existing standards insufficient or inaccurate.
| Review Type | Scope | Frequency | Owner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Annual Review | Full framework review by Agrizen foods Standards Team and founding management. All sections assessed. Revisions numbered and published. | 12 months | Agrizen foods Standards Lead |
| Event-Triggered Review | Review of the relevant section(s) following any food safety incident, recall, or material supplier event. Targeted — does not require full review. | Within 14 days of triggering event | Agrizen foods Standards Lead + Management |
| Regulatory Review | Review of all sections affected by any new or revised Kenyan food safety, labelling, or trade regulation. | Within 30 days of regulatory change taking effect | Agrizen foods Standards Lead + Legal Adviser |
| Supplier-Triggered Review | Review of supplier-specific standards where a new supplier category is onboarded that is not covered by existing standards. | Prior to first purchase from new category supplier | Agrizen foods Standards Lead |
This section governs Agrizen's approach to food safety risk, incident management, and product recall. As a curated reseller, Agrizen does not control production environments directly — but Agrizen does bear full accountability to consumers for the safety of every product sold under its umbrella. That accountability is operationalised through the systems defined below.
Agrizen's food safety governance is structured as a three-layer system. Each layer is independently operational but they are designed to reinforce one another.
The primary food safety control layer. Suppliers are responsible for meeting all applicable Kenyan food safety regulations and Agrizen-specific standards in their production and handling operations. Agrizen audits these controls it does not substitute for them.
Agrizen's QC inspection process intercepts products between supplier and consumer dispatch. No product moves from goods-in to dispatch without clearing the Agrizen QC gate. This layer catches failures that pass through Layer 1.
Post-delivery check-in and the complaint system provide post-dispatch surveillance. Consumer reported issues are triaged and, where they indicate a systemic risk, trigger a full incident response.
Definition: Immediate risk to consumer health or life. Potential for serious injury, illness, or death. Includes confirmed pathogen contamination, foreign object ingestion risk, severe allergen mislabelling, toxic substance contamination.
Response: Immediate product withdrawal. Consumer notification within 4 hours. Regulatory notification within 24 hours. Full recall assessment within 24 hours.
Definition: Significant risk to consumer health. Unlikely to be immediately life-threatening but could cause illness or injury. Includes suspected contamination, cold chain breach with temperature exceedance, significant labelling errors affecting allergens or dietary claims.
Response: Product hold within 2 hours. Incident report within 4 hours. Recall assessment within 48 hours. Consumer notification if recall confirmed.
Definition: Moderate risk or quality concern without immediate health implication. Includes packaging integrity failures, minor labelling inaccuracies, organoleptic quality concerns, single confirmed consumer illness without systemic pattern.
Response: Batch hold within 4 hours. Incident report within 24 hours. Corrective action plan within 72 hours.
Definition: Compliance or quality deviation without consumer health risk. Includes documentation gaps, minor weight deviations, aesthetic defects, single unsubstantiated complaint.
Response: Logged and tracked. Corrective action within 5 business days. Supplier notification within 24 hours.
Any person within the Agrizen operation who becomes aware of a potential food safety incident is obligated to report it immediately through the incident reporting chain. There is no threshold below which reporting can be deferred.
| Risk Level | Escalation Pathway |
|---|---|
| CRITICAL | Detection -> Immediate call to Team Lead -> Team Lead to founding team within 30 min -> Regulatory body notification within 24 hrs -> Consumer notification within 4 hrs if product is in consumer hands -> Recall execution if required |
| HIGH | Detection -> Report to Member 2 / Team Lead within 1 hour -> Assessment within 4 hours -> Regulatory notification if systemic -> Consumer notification if recall confirmed |
| MEDIUM | Detection -> Log incident (IR) within 24 hours -> Notify Team Lead -> Corrective action plan within 72 hours -> Supplier notified within 24 hours |
| LOW | Detection -> Log incident (IR) -> Notify supplier within 24 hours -> Corrective action within 5 business days -> Close log on resolution |
When an incident triggers a product hold, the following quarantine procedure is executed immediately. Physical quarantine and system quarantine must occur simultaneously.
1. Immediately physically separate all units of the affected batch from all other stock
2. Apply red HOLD tape and a printed QUARANTINE label to all affected units, showing: batch reference, date of quarantine, reason (brief), and the name of the person who applied the hold
3. Move quarantined stock to the designated quarantine area which is physically separate from all operational stock locations
4. Simultaneously update the Agrizen stock system to reflect the QC HOLD movement, referencing the IR number
5. Notify Team Lead with the location, quantity, and batch reference of quarantined stock
6. Do not release quarantine without written (logged) sign-off from the Agrizen Standards Lead or Team Lead
7. If quarantined stock is in transit or has been dispatched initiate stop-delivery protocol and consumer notification procedure immediately
Agrizen operates a three-category recall system aligned with Kenya's food regulatory framework and international best practice.
Criteria: Product poses a risk of serious adverse health consequences or death. Issued without delay upon confirmation of a CRITICAL or HIGH-level risk.
Execution: Immediate consumer notification via all channels (WhatsApp, direct call for HORECA). Regulatory body notification. Public disclosure on Agrizen foods platform within 4 hours of recall decision.
Criteria: Product may pose a risk to certain consumer groups or has characteristics that could cause consumer harm in defined circumstances. Issued when investigation is inconclusive but risk cannot be excluded.
Execution: Consumer notification within 24 hours. Regulatory notification. Platform disclosure within 24 hours.
Criteria: Product does not meet Agrizen's labelling, weight, or quality standards but does not present a direct health risk. Issued to maintain consumer trust and standards integrity.
Execution: Affected consumer notification within 48 hours. Platform disclosure at Agrizen discretion but recommended for transparency.
Consumer notification is not a legal formality at Agrizen foods it is a transparency obligation. Notifications must be clear, specific, actionable, and free of language designed to minimise the perceived severity of the issue.
Every incident, QC failure, complaint, and audit finding generates a Corrective Action Record (CAR). CARs are tracked to closure and published in summary form on the relevant supplier profile.
| Field | Format / Options | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| CAR Reference | CAR-YYYYMMDD-XXX | Unique identifier for cross-referencing |
| Linked Record(s) | IR / QC / CMP / Audit ref | All records that generated this CAR |
| Supplier / Internal | Named entity | Whether the corrective action is with a supplier or internal to Agrizen |
| Root Cause | Documented analysis | What caused the failure — not what happened as a result |
| Corrective Action Required | Specific, measurable action | Exactly what must change, by whom |
| Target Completion Date | DD-MMM-YYYY | Non-negotiable deadline |
| Verification Method | How Agrizen will confirm completion | Audit re-check, documentation, product test |
| Status | Open / In Progress / Verified Closed | Updated in real time |
| Published to Profile? | Yes / No | Whether this CAR summary appears on the supplier public profile |
When a food safety incident rises to CRITICAL or HIGH classification, Agrizen's crisis communication principles govern all external and internal communications. These principles take precedence over marketing, brand, and commercial considerations.
• Accuracy First — No statement — internal or external — about an incident is made without being factually verified to the extent possible at the time of the statement. Speculation is not communicated as fact.
• Speed Over Polish — A clear, accurate, unpolished communication issued quickly is better than a perfectly crafted statement issued late. Consumer safety is not waited on.
• Attribution, Not Evasion — Where a supplier's product or practices caused or contributed to an incident, that is stated factually. Agrizen does not absorb supplier failures by omission.
• No Minimisation Language — Communications do not use language designed to reduce the perceived severity of an incident. 'Out of an abundance of caution' is acceptable only when the risk is genuinely precautionary.
• Single Authorised Voice — All external communications during an active incident are issued by a single authorised Agrizen spokesperson. Unauthorised statements by team members on any channel are a policy violation.
• Consumer Action Clarity — Every crisis communication includes a specific, clear consumer action: what to do, what not to do, who to contact, by when.
• Post-Incident Accountability — After every CRITICAL or HIGH incident, Agrizen publishes a post-incident summary on its platform within 30 days, covering what happened, what Agrizen did, what the outcome was, and what has changed as a result.
This section is a formal governance declaration. It defines, with precision and without qualification, the operational commitments Agrizen makes and the operational positions Agrizen refuses to adopt. It is intended to be read by consumers, investors, suppliers, and regulators as a binding statement of Agrizen's operational identity.
• 01 Provenance Transparency: Every product sold under the Agrizen foods umbrella is linked to a named, verifiable supplier. Agrizen foods actively publishes supplier identities — including farm names, facility names, and responsible individuals. We do not conceal our supply chain.
• 02 Certification Integrity: Every supplier certification referenced in relation to an Agrizen foods product is current, verified, and carries a visible expiry date on the Agrizen foods platform. We do not allow expired certifications to represent current standing.
• 03 Audit Accountability: Agrizen foods audits every supplier on a defined schedule and publishes audit outcomes including adverse findings and corrective actions on the relevant supplier profile. Audit histories are not filtered for favourability.
• 04 QC Gate Integrity: No product dispatches to a consumer without passing Agrizen's independent quality control inspection. No QC FAIL or QC HOLD batch is released under any commercial pressure. The QC gate is inviolable.
• 05 Cold Chain Commitment: For every chilled or frozen product, Agrizen foods maintains and logs cold chain data from supplier intake to consumer delivery. Cold chain breaches are logged, investigated, and disclosed.
• 06 Batch-Level Traceability: Every Agrizen foods product can be traced to its originating supplier batch. In the event of an incident or recall, Agrizen foods can identify every consumer who received product from an affected batch.
• 07 Recall Disclosure: When a recall is necessary, Agrizen foods publishes it. Recall notices name the product, the batch, the supplier, and the reason. They are not delayed for commercial or reputational reasons.
• 08 Complaint Visibility: Consumer complaints are logged, tracked, and where they indicate a systemic issue, disclosed on the relevant supplier profile. Agrizen foods does not suppress complaint patterns.
• 09 Supplier Probation Transparency: When a supplier is placed on probation, that status is reflected on the supplier's public profile with a stated review date. Consumers can see it.
• 10 Safety Over Revenue: Where a food safety decision and a revenue consideration conflict, food safety governs. This is not aspirational language — it is operationally enforced through the frameworks in Sections I and II of this document.
The following are not policy options that Agrizen foods weighs against commercial considerations. They are positions from which Agrizen foods will not deviate regardless of financial, competitive, or relationship pressure.
• WILL NOT: Private-Label Concealment of Suppliers — Agrizen foods will not rebrand supplier products under an Agrizen-owned label in a way that conceals the producing supplier from consumers. Supplier brands and identities are preserved and visible.
• WILL NOT: False Ownership Positioning — Agrizen foods will not represent itself as a farm, producer, or manufacturer. We are a curated reseller. We are transparent about this at every consumer touchpoint.
• WILL NOT: Selective Audit Publication — Agrizen foods will not publish only favourable audit outcomes. Adverse findings, corrective actions, and probationary periods appear on supplier profiles in full.
• WILL NOT: Certification Misrepresentation — Agrizen foods will not describe a product as certified, grass-fed, organic, or any similar claim without current, verified certification from the supplying producer. Claims are not made on the basis of historical certifications or supplier assertions without verification.
• WILL NOT: Cold Chain Compromise for Logistics Convenience — Agrizen foods will not sacrifice cold chain standards to reduce delivery cost, meet a delivery window, or accommodate rider logistics. If the cold chain cannot be maintained, the delivery does not proceed.
• WILL NOT: Incident Suppression — Agrizen foods will not suppress, delay, or minimise the communication of food safety incidents, recalls, or quality failures to consumers. Commercial consequences of disclosure do not affect the timing or completeness of disclosure.
• WILL NOT: Complaint Filtration — Agrizen foods will not filter consumer complaint records to present a more favourable picture of a supplier or of Agrizen's operational performance. Complaint patterns are disclosed as part of the supplier transparency record.
• WILL NOT: Revenue-Driven QC Override — Agrizen foods will not release a QC HOLD or QC FAIL batch for commercial reasons including inventory shortfalls, pre-sold orders, or seasonal demand pressure.
• WILL NOT: Certification Date Manipulation Agrizen foods will not display a certification as current after its expiry date, regardless of whether renewal is in progress.
• WILL NOT: Asymmetric Incident Attribution Where a food safety failure is attributable to a supplier's production practices, Agrizen will not absorb that attribution to protect the supplier's reputation at the expense of consumer understanding.
Agrizen foods does not use the language of luxury branding to substitute for the substance of operational rigour. We do not describe products as 'artisanal', 'farm-fresh', 'handcrafted', or 'sustainably sourced' without being able to show the audit, certification, or traceability record that makes those words true.
We do not use photographic storytelling as a substitute for documented provenance.
We do not claim supplier relationships are 'partnerships' that are in reality arms-length transactional arrangements.
We do not use the word 'trust' as a brand aesthetic. Trust at Agrizen foods is an operational output the result of visible standards, verified certifications, documented audits, and transparent incident handling.
This section documents the trust-building systems that distinguish Agrizen from conventional food resellers. These are not marketing initiatives, they are operational transparency mechanisms that make Agrizen's governance claims verifiable by external parties.
Within 72 hours of every completed supplier audit, Agrizen publishes a summary on the relevant supplier's public profile. The summary is not a marketing write-up it is a structured data record.
Agrizen publishes not just whether a certification is current but exactly when it expires. This allows consumers to make informed purchasing decisions and holds suppliers publicly accountable for renewal discipline.
Certification Display Standard: Every certification on a supplier profile shows:
Certification Name | Issuing Body | Certificate Number | Issue Date | Expiry Date | Status (colour-coded)
Expired certifications are not removed from the profile — they are shown in the historical record with their expiry date and renewal status.
When a supplier is placed on probation under the Agrizen framework, the probationary status is published on their profile. This is an unconditional commitment supplier discomfort with public probation is not a basis for suppressing the disclosure.
Agrizen maintains a Public Recall Log accessible on the Agrizen platform. This log records every product recall in Agrizen's history regardless of scale with full details. A history with no recalls is credible; a history that appears to have no recalls because the log is incomplete is not.

The Agrizen foods Traceability Scorecard is a structured, five-dimension assessment of a supplier's internal traceability capability. It is conducted at onboarding and reassessed at every annual audit. Scores are published on the supplier profile.
| Dimension | Score 1 (Minimal) | Score 3 (Adequate) | Score 5 (Excellent) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raw Material Sourcing Records | No documentation of raw material origin | Supplier invoices available; origin partially documented | Full batch-level records with farm / facility source and dates |

| Recall Capability | Cannot identify affected consumers within 24 hours | Can identify affected batches; consumer identification takes 48+ hours | Can identify all consumers who received an affected batch within 4 hours |
Cold chain integrity is a critical, non-negotiable product quality parameter for Agrizen's fresh and frozen products. Agrizen publishes cold chain performance data as part of its operational transparency commitment.
For each approved supplier, Agrizen foods publishes a structured approval rationale on the supplier profile. This is not a marketing feature it is a governance transparency mechanism that allows consumers to understand the basis on which Agrizen foods vouches for a supplier.
Every operational record generated within Agrizen foods is timestamped to the minute. This is not administrative detail, it is the evidence chain that makes Agrizen's transparency claims verifiable.
Every revision to this framework is logged and published. Consumers, suppliers, and investors can see what Agrizen's standards were at any given point in time, what changed, and why.

The architecture of trust at Agrizen Foods is not aspirational. It is documented, operational, and externally verifiable.
Every supplier is visible. Every certification carries an expiry date that is published. Every audit produces a record that consumers can read. Every recall is logged and named. Every batch can be traced.
Agrizen does not sell trust through storytelling alone. Agrizen builds trust through visibility, standards, verification, traceability, and accountable operations.
